Jot, scratch, repeat
I've been visiting my parents for the July 4th and I spent some time going through my old stuff. I came across my "Black 'n Red” notebook from about 3 years ago. I used to carry this notebook around when I was in college to write some notes and ideas down, sketch some UIs and other random stuff. It's very interesting to go through the same pages again, years later. I think this is one of the best decisions that I've done back in the day—writing down my thoughts. Here's why.
Looking back some of this stuff will seem ridiculous, some of it will be fairly good; nevertheless, there's one thing that you can do with these old ideas—you can recycle them. For the past few years you've been exposed to all kinds of new things, such as people, technology, books, etc., and you can combine this new knowledge that you accumulated with your old ideas to come up with something new, something fresh.
I think taking notes and revisiting them later plays an important part in the formation of ideas. Write some stuff down, instagram that amazing view, do whatever works for you, but don't forget to come back to it later. Otherwise, why are you doing this?
